Deleterious effects of nitric oxide (NO) in sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (S-AKI)
Sepsis leads the induction of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and generation of oxygen radicals, such as superoxide ions, causing peroxynitrite-related tubular injury and NO-induced systemic vasodilation with preserved renal reactivity. Both mechanisms are involved in S-AKI.
