HT1080 fibroblasts and SH-SY5Y neurons were grown to ~80% confluence in 6-well plates and metabolically labelled with [14C] propionate under the standard culture conditions or in the presence of either chloroquine (25 μm) or leupeptin (40 μm) for 48 h. The cells were then subjected to 5% TCA and [14C] propionate in the cell pellets determined and expressed as a percentage of the control conditions (A).
