DNA methylation is the process where methyl groups are added to DNA molecules which changes the activity of the DNA segments. This usually acts to repress transcription and has a wide variety of genetic uses. This issue explores DNA methylation in cancer, the role of DNA methylation in the oocyte and provides an update of the latest techniques to study the process.
