Adipose Collection

New themed collection on adipose biology, cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease

Guest edited by Dr Ahmed El-Yazbi (American University of Beirut) and Professor Gavin Oudit (University of Alberta).

Clinical Science and the Guest Editors of this collection are pleased to invite the submission of reviews and research articles on the mechanisms of adipose inflammation and modulators of adipose tissue biology, relating to cardiovascular disorders such as heart failure (including heart failure with preserved ejection fraction), atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease, aging and hypertension, vascular complications of diabetes, and cerebrovascular disease (including dementia).

This collection can also accommodate articles exploring the possible connection between adipose tissue physiology/pathology and kidney disease, metabolic disease, and lipodystrophy, in addition to therapeutic approaches for adipose tissue dysfunction.

About the Guest Editors

Dr Ahmed El-Yazbi is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine in the American University of Beirut. He is also a clinical pharmacist and a pharmacotherapy specialist. His research investigates the mechanism of early vascular dysfunction observed in the course of development of metabolic disorders with an emphasis on the early involvement of perivascular adipose tissue. Dr El-Yazbi’s laboratory is involved in pre-clinical investigation of novel nutritional and pharmacotherapeutic approaches to modulate adipose inflammation and cardiovascular dysfunction.

Professor Gavin Oudit is Professor of Medicine and Clinician-Scientist at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, University of Alberta. He is currently a Canada Research Chair in Heart Failure and Director of the Heart Function Clinic at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. His research activities are diverse, with a primary emphasis on heart failure and cardiomyopathies.

How to submit to the themed collection

Submissions should be made via the Journal’s online submission site by 31 December 2019. Authors should select the ‘Adipose biology, cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease’ topic from the list of ‘Special Sections’ during the submission process. Authors should also confirm they are submitting an article for consideration of inclusion to the collection by stating this in their cover letter (which should accompany all submissions). All submissions will undergo the Journal’s standard peer review process.
