The adeno-associated viral vector (AAV) enters the target cells via glycosylated cell-surface receptors and is translocated to the nucleus to release its cargo. Messenger RNA produced from transcription of the cargo leads to translation of protein of interest outside the nucleus, to enable desired cardioprotective effects in response to AAV-mediated gene therapy.
