The cover of this issue of Bioscience Reports (volume 42, issue 3) features an image from the research piece by Matthews and Herat et al. They found that retinal features of Type 1 diabetic Akimba mice showed extensively disorganised and disrupted vasculature including large microaneurysms. Excitingly, their study highlighted that the Sodium Glucose Co-transporter 2 inhibitor, Empagliflozin promoted improved retinal vascular integrity and organisation in Akimba mice.
