In this issue of Bioscience Reports (volume 42, issue 2), Adam and Sohl discuss enzyme activity in cancer. Residue D273 (highlighted in blue or green in each monomer) of dimeric human isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) appears to help sense local changes in pH, presumably via a change in ionization state that affects the 3D structure of IDH1. Interestingly, this residue is buried in the dimer interface, > 9 angstroms from the nearest substrate.Close Modal
