Science in Asia has been developing rapidly in recent years in both quality and quality. The Biochemical Journal spotted this trend more than 10 years ago and we have been building strong links with top-level Asian researchers through appointments to the Editorial Board and by the opening of an editorial office in Beijing headed by our Vice-Chair Asia-Pacific, Professor Tao Xu, at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. To further strengthen ties, in the Spring of 2013 the Biochemical Journal organized a symposium with Chinese cell biologists at Tsinghua University, Beijing, which was followed by our Editorial Board meeting. Also during this visit, the Biochemical Society (the journal's owner) developed further its collaborative projects, and fostered its relationship, with the Chinese Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (CSBMB).
